Description
The Black Mudfish is an elongated, eel-like freshwater fish native to New Zealand's North Island. Known for its ability to aestivate (bury itself in mud) during dry periods, it is a nocturnal ambush predator feeding on invertebrates and small fish. This species requires specific cool, well-oxygenated water conditions and ample hiding spots.
