The Birmingham Darter (*Etheostoma mariae*) is a small, vibrantly colored freshwater fish endemic to the Cahaba River system in Alabama. Males display striking green heads, red and orange body markings, and blue fins, especially during breeding season. They are bottom-dwelling fish that prefer clear, flowing water with rocky or gravel substrates.
