The Spangled Darter (*Etheostoma nuchale*) is a small, strikingly colorful freshwater fish native to the Cahaba River system in Alabama. Males exhibit brilliant blue and orange patterns, particularly during breeding. These bottom-dwelling carnivores require well-oxygenated tanks with fine substrate and ample hiding places.
