Description

Lanternfish are deep-sea mesopelagic fish known for their bioluminescent organs (photophores) which they use for camouflage, communication, and attracting prey. They undertake daily vertical migrations, moving to shallower waters at night to feed and returning to the deep during the day. These fish are not suitable for home aquariums due to their specialized deep-sea habitat requirements, including extreme pressure, cold temperatures, and darkness.
