Description

The Half-naked Hatchetfish is a small, deep-sea fish characterized by its compressed, hatchet-shaped body and large, tubular eyes pointed upwards. It possesses bioluminescent organs (photophores) on its underside, which it uses for counter-illumination to blend with the faint downwelling light and avoid predators. This species inhabits the mesopelagic and bathypelagic zones, making it unsuitable for typical home aquariums.
