Description

The Gulf Flounder is a fascinating flatfish with both eyes on the left side of its head, allowing it to lie camouflaged on the seafloor. It exhibits a mottled brown to gray coloration with numerous white spots and typically three prominent dark ocelli (eye-spots) arranged in a triangular pattern. This ambush predator buries itself in sand or mud, waiting for unsuspecting prey.
